It was established in 2005 by jeweller Melanie Katsalidis in North Fitzroy, where the Pieces of Eight Workshop remains a vibrant studio for six independent jewellers. Both the gallery and workshop are committed to promoting contemporary jewellery and objects in dynamic new ways. Together, they provide a unique platform for makers to communicate and express their ideas to the public. The workshop also offers an exciting residency program for selected artists.

It features a diverse collection of handmade jewellery from a range of Australia’s best Goldsmiths, designers and artists as well as sculpture, art and more.   I bought my engagement ring here and will go back for the wedding ring, they were amazing. My fiance and I looked at so many places for a ring but nothing felt like us. This gallery had an amazing collection of jewelers and stones. We felt very welcomed and did not feel at all pressured to make a purchase like most places and they had price ranges to suit every budget. I am in love with my ring, its so unique and the stone is mesmerising. Mine was made by the store owner and is a Silver spinel in rose gold with a knife edge band.

The ring itself (from Melanie Katsalidis) is beautiful, and has absolutely exceeded my expectations, as well as those of my partner. The service has also been excellent from start to finish. The staff at the gallery listened carefully to my requests, answered my emails promptly, and the turnaround was much quicker than expected. They were also very accommodating when it came to re-sizing my ring (which was a fraction too small to begin with -- not their fault though!). Having never worn or owned a ring prior to my experience at PO8, I found the whole process really enjoyable, and I'm thrilled with the final product.
