About Us

As pioneers of the Australian Carob Industry, the Carob Kitchen is leading the way in innovation for health snacks, packaging and the re-invention of the perception of Carob. Carving a path in the growing health-food sector, the new innovative Banjo Bear (a no added sugar carob treat for children but also devoured by adults), is quickly becoming a household and café favourite. Grown at Port Elliot, South Australia, our nutritious and naturally sweet carob is nurtured with organic love, fresh sea breezes and Australian sunshine.

Established in 1997, our family owned orchard is the oldest organic carob operation in Australia. Using only natural methods, each tree is lovingly home grown from seed and grafted in the paddock by David and Carol Solomon, who still hand nurture and care for each of our 3,500 trees today.

Positioned adjacent to the sea in Port Elliot, South Australia, the natural rainfall, summer sun and sea breezes of the local Mediterranean climate allows our orchard to thrive – producing consistent and high quality carob bursting with natural sweetness.

As passionate growers and pioneers of the carob industry, our innovative grafting technique, machine harvesting and nurturing methods have changed the way carob is farmed world-wide.

The same creativity flows through our kitchen, where daughter Sophie develops new gourmet carob goodies and recipes for you to enjoy. From the first syrup released in 2010, our range has expanded to include kibble, powders, bars, bears and vegan friendly options.

Now filling shelves of supermarkets, cafes and health food stores around the world, The Carob Kitchen has quickly become a household name and the most popular carob brand in Australia.

Native to the Mediterranean and Middle East, the flowering evergreen carob tree is the big daddy of the legume family. Closely related to peas, beans, soy and lentils, the ornamental trees are tolerant to drought, rocky arid soil and salt – making them perfect for the coastal climate of South Australia.

Once fertilised, carob trees produce an abundance of large pods filled with pulp and beans which we harvest each year at our family farm. Selected for their natural sweetness and taste, our orchard is home to seven different carob varieties which we blend to create the perfect flavour. After harvesting, the seeds are dried, kibbled, roasted and milled ready to create our delicious carob treats.
